If you havenât heard the name Charlotte Lawrence, youâve probably heard her music. Her 2018 EP “YOUNG” has garnered millions of streams, and her feature on YUNGBLUDâs âFalling Skiesâ was a standout track on the second season of “13 Reasons Why”.

Charlotteâs latest single, the ethereal “God Must Be Doing Cocaine,” dropped in November, and sheâs set to release her debut full-length album in the coming year. However, the model-turned-singer knows that some might recognize her more for her visual presence. At 19, Charlotte is a fixture at fashion weeks and her friendship with Kaia Gerber is well-documented by their eagle-eyed Instagram followers, where Charlotte boasts 731K fans. She hopes her upcoming album will help her move beyond the âsocial media starâ label.

We caught up with Charlotte at Aspen’s historic Hotel Jerome. In between ski runs and dog sledding, the rising alt-rock powerhouse tried on looks from Chanel’s Ephemeral pop-up boutique, open through January 21. A native of Los Angeles, Charlotteâs fondness for Chanel stems from her mother, veteran TV actress Christa Miller (her father is Bill Lawrence, writer, producer, and creator of “Scrubs”).

âWhen I was younger, my mom had this Chanel pearl necklace,â Charlotte recalls. âShe told me that my birthstone was a pearl, and I was like, âA pearl is me! All I want to do is wear pearls.ââ She often borrowed the necklace until one fateful day: âI wore it under my elementary school uniform. We had to run a mile in P.E. and it broke. There were pearls everywhere. It was so bad.â
Running in pearls is emblematic of the carefree, bold energy that Charlotte brings to fashion.

âMy style varies. On a normal day, youâll see me in sweat shorts or sweatpants that Iâve cut above the knee to make into shorts. Theyâre hideous but so comfortable. I love boots and rings. Iâm a big, chunky ring girl. I have these ripped RE/DONE jeans â theyâre my favorite. And Iâm obsessed with vintage rock T-shirts. The rarer they are, the more I love them.â

Where do you usually shop for your vintage tees?
âIâve got a guy named Rick whoâs amazing. The last time I saw him in New York, he came to my apartment with three huge duffle bags of T-shirts in sizes for me, my mom, and my guy friend. Itâs dangerous. We were all grabbing the best ones.â

So you were competing with your mom?
âOne hundred percent. We got in a huge fight over a Who shirt that I grabbed first. I saw her trying it on and was like, âWhat are you doing?! Donât do that!ââ

How do you approach your performance looks?
âIt depends on the night. Iâm all about interesting bottomsâcool pants, weird skirts. I idolize Mick Jaggerâs stage style. I went to a Stones concert and he had like eight wardrobe changes. He went from leather pants and shirtless to a full black, glittery jumpsuit. He was legendary.â

Whose style are you currently loving?
âJonah Hill. Best street style of all time. My favorite Instagram account is called Jonah Fits. Why do you think I dyed my hair pink? He was out in New York with neon pink hair, a tie-dye shirt, and sweat shorts. I thought, âThatâs my style. Thatâs what Iâm going to wear now.â And I did.â

Your hair used to be pinkâwhat inspired the blue?
âI was bored. My whole thing is that youâre only young once. Iâm not going to be carrying my kid around with blue hair. Also, once you have it bleached, itâs easy to change color. So right when the pink faded, I went blue. I donât know what Iâll do next.â
